Fall Schedule, Chrisie-style

Here are the shows I'll be watching this fall. I think I'm going to try to hold a few until I have a bunch of episodes saved up... lots of my shows work so much better that way. But there's a few (I'm looking at you Vampire Diaries) that I just can't wait to watch.

Desperate Housewives, The Good Wife, Homeland, and (I think it's on this night, it's not on the schedule I was looking at) Once Upon A Time

So that's my fall season in a (long listed) nutshell. Happy TV watching! :)

New Fall Shows

Well, by popular request (ok, two people) here are my picks for the new fall shows this season.

Ringer (CW, Tuesdays) - Sarah Michelle Gellar is back (as twins!). But one of them is dead?! I don't know, but the premise is eerily similar to the currently airing The Lying Game. Oh well, SMG is a good draw for me. Mystery and intrigue and pg-13 nastiness.

Up All Night (NBC, Wednesdays) - So apparently the new comedies really suck this year, and this show is supposed to suck the least. Yup, they didn't say it was good, just that it sucked less than the rest of the crap. Christina Applegate and Will Arnett are new parents who, you guessed it, are 'up all night' I'll give it a shot.

The Secret Circle (CW, Thursdays) - It's about witches, stars Britt Robertson, and is from the same author as The Vampire Diaries. One can only hope it's nearly as good as VD. I love this kind of show, sue me.

2 Broke Girls (CBS, Mondays) - Another comedy. I think it's about 2 broke girls. Yup. Hey, it's 22 minutes of your life... you decide.

New Girl (Fox, Tuesdays) Zooey Deschanel. If you love her, watch this show. If you don't love her, run far away in the other direction. I love her.

Revenge (ABC, Wednesdays) - So, I wasn't going to watch this show about a young woman (Emily van Camp) who goes to the Hamptons for revenge on some rich people... but then I found the pre-air of the pilot online. And I liked it. It's big on mystery and manipulation.

Terra Nova (Fox, Mondays) - End of the world leads to time travel and dinosaurs. This show has been delayed repeatedly to polish and improve on the FX, so hopefully it looks good now (and has a story). I read somewhere that each episode is costing 3 million to make.

Hart of Dixie (CW, Mondays) - I'm a sucker for Rachel Bilson. I don't know if I'll buy her as a doctor, but we'll see.

Suburgatory (ABC, Wednesdays) Girl gets moved to the suburbs, funny stuff happens? I don't know, but I like Alan Tudyk, so I'll give it a shot.

Homeland (Showtime, Sundays) - From press release - 'Homeland is a psychological thriller that tells the story of Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes), a CIA officer battling her own demons, who becomes convinced that the intelligence that led to the rescue of Sgt. Nick Brody (Damien Lewis) a US soldier who had been missing and presumed dead for nine years, was a set-up and may be connected to an al-Qaeda plot to be carried out on American soil.'

American Horror Story (FX, Wednesdays) Looks really scary... like pee your pants scary.

Grimm (NBC, Fridays) - Solving fairy tale crimes in our world. Procedural with a twist.

Once Upon A Time (ABC, Sundays) - So, kind of like Grimm, fairy tales bleeding into our world. If I had to pick between the two I would chose Once Upon a Time, because Jane Espenson is a writer (head writer maybe?) and she writes on shows I really like (Buffy, BSG, Torchwood etc)

Hell on Wheels (AMC, Sundays) A western on AMC. Should be good. I still miss Deadwood.

More Crochet Creations

Hey all! I know you've been eagerly awaiting an update on my crocheting progress. ;P So here's a few pics of what I've been working on.

The mobile I was talking about last blog. It was a pain in the butt to make and 3 of the 4 birds were pulled off in the first few days. Oh well.

I've got some more stuff on the go now... lots of birthdays for the kids and babies being born this year. You know what you're getting... :)

Hooker Heaven

So, it's been awhile. I guess life got in the way of writing about life. That's probably a good sign, I guess. I've had a few ideas for blog entries floating around in my head that I'll hopefully get to in the next little while, but here's what I've been working on while I could've been blogging.

Crochet! I know, it sounds like something Grandmas do... making doilies and afghans and baby blankets (and they do of course!), but there is a huge resurgence among us younger folk. My Grandma passed away in September and I asked for her hooks and have been 'hooked' ever since. I borrowed every book in the library and also found a wealth of stuff on the internet. Yay for the internet! And of course my Mom has been a huge help... she is super-awesome at crocheting. I never thought I could do it, but here I am. Nowhere near as good as her of course, but keeping with it anyway.

I started out interested in making purses and hats and stuff like that, and discovered something I was really interested in...

Amigurumi. A Japanese style of crocheting (and sometimes knitting) cute toys, usually made in a continuous spiral. Anyway, I won't bore you with the details, but here's a few of the projects that I've finished. Some definitely turned out better than others, but I'm still learning and the thing I love about the ami's is that they are still pretty cute no matter how badly you screw up.

Ami's are usually pretty small, but these two guys are huggable sized. I made the bear for Isaac and the bunny for Katie. They have the special safety eyes I had to special-order and wait for, so these two sat around for a while without their heads on. It was a little creepy. Isaac likes his bear though, he added it to his bed-bears.

And by request, a snake for Isaac. And a carrot rattle for Katie.

I've also started working on some Easter stuff for the kids, even though Easter is really late this year. Because Isaac can't have most Easter goodies, I thought I'd make crochet eggs that he can hunt for. And I also made the basket.

I'm working on a mobile for Katie's room right now and it should be super-cute, but like most ami-stuff it has really little pieces to sew together, so it's actually taking longer than some of the bigger things. Oh well, it should be really cute.

Anyway, it's been a great outlet for me. I've searched all my life for something that lets me be creative, but also follows a pattern because sometimes I'm creatively-challenged. And eventually I'll probably start making my own patterns, so that's cool. So, yup, I'll be the grandma making the afghans and baby blankets. One can hope. :)

The winter TV season is starting up soon... so here's what I'm looking forward to this year.

New

Episodes - Jan 9 (Showtime) A British couple brings their hit show to America... Matt LeBlanc plays a version of himself. Looks funny in a meta kind of way.

The Cape - Jan 9 (NBC) Superhero! Summer Glau! Need I say more?

Off The Map - Jan 12 (ABC) Shondra Rhimes (Grey's Anatomy creator) brings young sexy doctors to remote jungle-place. Caroline Dhavernas (Wonderfalls) is in it! Yay! Doctors fighting malaria! Double yay!

Being Human - Jan 17 (Syfy) While I generally loathe american remakes of british shows, I tried watching the british version of Being Human and I think I could like the american version.
A vampire, a werewolf and a ghost are roommates.

Returning

Pretty Little Liars - Jan 3 (ABCFamily) Big hit of last summer, it's back with the last half of the season. Dirty secrets, guilty pleasure.

Parks and Recreation - Jan 20 (NBC) I just started watching this show, but it's pretty funny. Kind of like The Office, but less annoying characters.

Royal Pains - Jan 20 (USA) - One of several USA shows I watch... mostly summer-type fare.

Well, I guess that's it. I won't be hurting for shows to watch, because most of the fall shows aren't taking super-long breaks this year. (Except Sanctuary - April - APRIL!)

Fall TV ~ What I'm Watching

The leaves are turning colours (already) and even though we haven't had much of a summer, fall is indeed upon us. I actually really like fall, despite the fact that winter follows shortly after. I like boots and cozy sweaters (and school supplies - I know I'm a little strange), but mostly I like fall because of the new fall tv season! And oh boy, what a season! I am not going to have enough time to watch everything right away, but there are a few shows I think I'll be watching as soon as they finish on my computer. So, here's the daily breakdown of what I'm going to try to watch this year, and how excited I am for each show.

Chuck - 'must-see'
How I Met Your Mother - wait until I'm bored (does that ever happen anymore?)
Gossip Girl - middle of the pack
Mike & Molly - new show with some promise

No Ordinary Family - I've watched the pilot - liked it a lot - will watch quickly

Cougar Town - 'must-see' (it's a good show, ok - don't judge me)
Hellcats - middle of the pack, but it's already airing, so I'll probably watch it right away at first because nothing else is on

Walking Dead - starts Oct 31, probably watch the first one right away

Also, if anyone was wondering about the SyFy movie Red with Felicia Day it's airing Oct 30.

Grandma

Today we said goodbye to a special person in my family... It was a sad day, but also a time to reflect on the many ways she shaped our lives. I believe that she is at peace now, after struggling these past couple months.

I have so many fond memories of my Grandma. I spent a lot of time at her house when I was a kid. When we lived in Dunleath, I would go over there sometimes before and after school while my parents were at work. And after we moved to Medicine Hat I spent several summers at their house, before they moved to the Hat too. Those summers were the most fun... my cousins would come out and we would go camping, bottle picking, or maybe go to town to the mall. But before the boys came, I mostly hung out with Grandma. We'd play games, or do puzzles, make donuts... or even burn garbage. She could make anything fun. One time we tried to make paper like I saw on tv... it didn't work, but it was still fun. I have such vivid memories of those times, and I'm so thankful for that.

Grandma... I hope you knew how much I loved you and how much you meant to so many people. You're with the angels now... rest in peace.
